Hiking has become a very important part of my life. In fact, I would say it has made me who I am at this point. I lead a busy life full of stress in the big city and like most people my life revolves around my phone and email. I wish it wasn’t that way but society and jobs require it in today’s world.
Over a period of years I just became anxious and angry. I decided to take a weekend off and take a hike in Colorado just myself alone. It wasn’t anything strenuous and I don’t even remember the name of the trail but I took a sleeping bag and some water although not enough! That was my first mistake and ended up drinking water out of a stream and was lucky enough that I didn’t get giardia. I didn’t know what giardia was but that is one of the things you get to learn in hiking.
I ended up sleeping on the trail which I’m sure was illegal. My mind started slowing down and I started noticing things that I hadn’t when I started. It has been a long time since that first hike and now everything I do revolves around my next hiking trip.
I am so much more relaxed, in shape and can handle stress better due to hiking. Part of the fun is planning the next trip and introducing people to hiking. My girlfriend now enjoys it and we go on trips both together and with couples. We have made great new friendships with people that we have taken on trips or just have run across on the trail.
It is so cool because you just never know what you will see next. A new adventure or site awaits you around every corner. I would strongly encourage anyone that feels like their life has become overwhelming to get out and try a hike! I think you will enjoy it and it might change your life.
If you need something else to convince you here is one of my favorite Youtube channels about hiking and this is one of their Hiking videos.
Hope you enjoy the site and keep coming back!
